Biography

My name is Christopher Diaz and I am currently a freshman at Rider University. I was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey and graduated from Hudson Catholic Regional High School. I am currently double majoring in International Business and Marketing. Through the classes I have taken at Rider, I have enhanced many of my skills, like researching and writing. While at Rider University, I have also been very active on campus. I have become a part of various organizations , like Latin American Student Organization (LASO), Multicultural Student Leadership Institute (MSLI), and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). I have also given back to the community. I have participated in community service events like Midnight Run, which is when we drive around New York City and hand out food and clothing to the homeless. After graduation from Rider University I plan to attend graduate school and obtain my Masters in Business Administration/ MBA. I am looking to pursue a career in either marketing and/or International Business. This is a small glimpse of who Chris Diaz is. As you keep reading my blog you will see how I have grown academically. Please feel free to contact me with any questions at diazc@rider.edu. Hope you enjoy my blog!

Educational Opportunity Program

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a program that was developed to help students financially with their college education . The program was also designed to help students successfully transition from high school to college and become active leaders on campus. I was accepted into the Educational Opportunity Program . During the summer of 2009 I participated in the EOP summer program. Throughout this five week summer program I got a head start and began classes early. I took classes such as: Speech and Communications, Expository Writing, and Race Class and Gender.

Resume

Here I have provided you with my resume. This demonstrated the skills I have obtained from my past experiences and education.

Race Class and Gender

Race Class and Gender is a class based on social issues occurring in this country today. We have discussed several issues such as racism in schools and sexism in the workplace. This class really gets you thinking about the social problems facing this country. I composed two essays for this class based on both inequality and race identity. In the essay Unequal Nation, I briefly discuss the problems minority groups face in the workplace. In the essay Personal Identity, I described how difficult it is for immigrants to keep their "identity" after they come to this country. This is truly a remarkable class and I would high suggest it to anyone.

Expository Writing: Miracle at St. Anna

In Expository Writing we have read several books and articles based on various topics. One of the books we read was James McBride’s Miracle at St. Anna. In this book we see the horrors that occurred in the Tuscany region of Italy during World War II. I decided to research one of the biggest war crimes committed in the area. After all of my research I was able to construct Hidden Crime, and essay about the massacre at St. Anna di Stazzema.

Speech and Communications: Persuasive Speech

For my Speech and Communications Class I had to create a persuasive presentation. I decided to do it on a topic that I feel strongly about, animal abandonment. I am against animal abandonment and believe it could be prevented. For this presentation I stated the problem, discussed what is causing this problem, and demonstrated how it could be prevented.
